Groaners and fidgeters.

This woman in front of me at yoga today drove me nuts. Not very yogini-like of me, is it? I have seen her before.....she gets right up front close to the mirror. She goes deep into a pose, bounces there, then comes up. She goes into it again, and stays there after the teacher has given the prompt to come up. She is also a grunter and a groaner. She fidgets, messes with her hair, and moves around. I guess she isn't really interested in finding her place of stillness, is she?

I had a decent practice today though when we reached dandyamana janushirasana I felt my heart rate going up too high and I really tried to bring it back down with my breath. During dandyamana dhanurasana I kept my opposite arm down during the first set and raised it during the second. My muscles felt pretty maxed out by the time we reached padangustasana so I wobbled pretty much on my left and only held the toe stand for a few seconds on my right...and we only did one set because we were running late.

Today was Michael's birthday....very low key with Brenda & Grandma here for lunch - turkey BBQ, slaw, guacamole, salsa & chips, pickles, fruit, veggie & dip, then birthday cake & ice cream. Will was generally difficult all day long and tonight after a big flame-out when the downtown fireworks were over, he sobbed that he was sad because Michael was 8 and he was only 4, and he wanted to have his birthday too! No amount of trying to reason with him worked, since he was so tired, so I'm not sure why I bothered. He's asleep, with a matchbox car clutched in one hand and a glow stick in the other.

This afternoon I put in "Harry Potter & the Chamber of Secrets" for Will, so Michael could build his "striking venom" lego in peace....I got down on the floor to do some poses while I watched. When I hold onto something, I can really take my leg high in standing bow....after I did a couple of those I got on the floor to sit in fixed firm, which is one of the toughest ones for me...who knew your knees were supposed to stretch that much. I also tried toe stand a few times....my left ankle cannot support me unless I'm warmed up, so that was a bust. I dropped back into camel a few times....the drop back is a cinch, now, but I wish I was a lot more flexible in my back so I could get my hands lower. I hope I am not paying for those poses in the morning.

I made a pig of myself with the cake, which was excellent if I do say so. There is really nothing like a totally made from scratch cake. I ate a big salad for dinner so I don't feel too bad.

No yoga tomorrow...I'm going to walk. I'm behind on my episodes of Wait Wait, Don't Tell Me.
